Please help us support the Choral Music Program at Gallatin High School in Gallatin, TN, in honor and loving memory of my mother, Susan Brown Durham. One of Susan's greatest loves in life was music. That love began as a child and continued through high school, college, and to her last day on earth. Susan, made the journey to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 26, 2020. Her short bout with pancreatic cancer has been a harsh, cold wake-up call that "life is short". Mom was 73 years young, and was still dancing, attending concerts, and enjoying a rich, social life only four short months ago. Her rapid decline has been so difficult to watch.
Susan wanted people to support Choral Music in the local community all her life. We are asking that her friends and family donate to the Gallatin High School Choral Music program in lieu of flowers to honor to life on earth. The High School truly needs our support, and we, her family, can think of nothing more fitting to honor her during this strange time of the Corona outbreak when we are prevented, out of necessity, from having a funeral service.
Mom was a fun-loving, cheerful, a breath-of-fresh-air - wherever she was. She was known for her radiant smile and compassionate heart - she always wanted to know more about you, than to talk about herself. Mom was "music incarnate." She lived and breathed music. It was part of her DNA. She loved to dance, she loved animals, she loved people.
No one has ever loved more deeply than Susan Durham. She saw her mission in life "to cheer people up." Mission accomplished!
There will be a private burial for mom in the coming days, followed by a grand public celebration of her life sometime after the public gathering restrictions are lifted. We will post details regarding this memorial celebration of her life on social media when arrangements are made. At this time, we anticipate this will be no sooner than mid-May or perhaps a few months later, depending on the scope and duration of the pandemic.
