HELP US CREATE A SAFER HOME FOR 100 RESCUE DOGS
SUSA Home has a story that started long before it had a name.
Years ago, Pinon began feeding a few stray dogs on Koh Phangan. Over time, more and more dogs crossed his path who needed more than food – they needed somewhere safe to go.
Pinon opened his own home to them, and little by little, his home became their home too.
Today, around 95 rescued dogs call SUSA Home their home. Some may eventually find families of their own, while others – especially those who are older, sick or vulnerable – may stay here for the rest of their lives.
What started with Pinon caring for a few stray dogs is now supported by a dedicated network of volunteers and supporters and has grown into SUSA – Support Us Supporting Animals, a registered, entirely volunteer-run animal welfare organisation.
Together, we support animals across Koh Phangan through rescue, feeding, medical care, sterilisation, foster care and adoption.
But SUSA Home remains at the heart of our work.
It is already home to around 95 dogs. Now, we need to make that home safer, more structured and sustainable for their future.
A HOME BUILT AROUND THEIR NEEDS
SUSA Home was never designed to care for around 100 rescued dogs.
It became what it is today because, over the years, there was always another dog who needed somewhere safe to go.
Now, new requirements from the local authorities mean that significant structural changes need to be made to SUSA Home.
SUSA Home needs to evolve from a place that grew organically over many years into a safer, more structured environment that meets the required standards and works for the different needs of the dogs living there.
This means reorganising and improving the existing space – creating clearer separation between different groups of dogs, better sleeping and resting areas, appropriate spaces for younger and more active dogs, improved hygiene facilities and safer conditions throughout SUSA Home.
For around 95 dogs, this is already home. Now we need to make sure it is a home that can continue to care for them safely and sustainably into the future.
WHY AROUND 100 DOGS?
SUSA Home will have a responsible capacity of approximately 100 dogs.
Every dog we take responsibility for needs food, medical care, vaccinations, parasite prevention, clean and safe spaces, time and individual attention – not only when they are rescued, but every day that follows.
Responsible animal welfare means knowing our limits.
Taking in more animals than our space, people and resources can responsibly support would eventually compromise the quality of care we can provide.
Our goal is therefore not to make SUSA Home bigger and bigger. It is to make sure that the dogs who live here receive the care and quality of life they deserve.
But SUSA’s responsibility to animals does not end at the gates of SUSA Home.
SUSA HOME HAS A LIMIT. SUSA’S WORK DOES NOT.
Across Koh Phangan, SUSA continues to support animals through feeding, rescue, medical care, sterilisation, foster care and adoption.
Behind this work is a dedicated network of volunteers and supporters giving their time, skills and resources to help animals across the island.
SUSA Home is where around 95 rescued dogs live. SUSA is the community working together to help animals far beyond it.
And that is exactly what our name stands for:
SUSA – Support Us Supporting Animals.
WHY OUR ORIGINAL PLAN HAS EVOLVED
When we first launched this fundraiser, our vision was to build a completely new permanent shelter on Koh Phangan.
That vision has not disappeared – but the way we can responsibly achieve it has evolved.
As our planning progressed, we realised that building another facility would only be the beginning. Operating it sustainably for years to come would require additional staff and reliable long-term funding for food, medical care, cleaning, maintenance and everyday operations.
At the same time, around 95 rescued dogs already have a home that now needs significant investment.
With the new requirements from the local authorities making structural changes to SUSA Home necessary, we had to reconsider how our available resources could be used most responsibly.
Rather than creating a second facility while the existing SUSA Home itself needs to be transformed, we have decided to invest in the home our dogs already have.
The funds raised through this fundraiser will therefore be used to transform SUSA Home into a safer, more structured and sustainable home for approximately 100 rescued dogs.
All donations already received will go towards this transformation. Future donations to this fundraiser will support the same project.
The purpose behind this fundraiser remains the same:
to create a permanent, safe and sustainable home for rescued dogs on Koh Phangan.
What has evolved is how we get there.
HELP US TRANSFORM SUSA HOME
Around 95 dogs already call SUSA Home their home.
Your donation will help us transform the place they already depend on into one that is safer, better structured and able to care for them sustainably for years to come.
The dogs are already here.
The home is already here.
Now, together, we can make it better.
We will continue sharing updates, photos and progress throughout the transformation so you can see what your support is helping us create.
Thank you for supporting SUSA and helping us give these dogs the home they deserve.
Built on dedication. Powered by community.
