I am fundraising to help Angels for Animals Foundation save the lives of eight dogs in Turkey who will be rehomed in the UK once healthy if they survive.

Turkey has introduced a devastating new law which effectively orders the eradication of dogs on the streets of Turkey (both those born on the streets and those abandoned on the streets by their families). This means that over 4 million dogs are at risk of being slaughtered across the nation. Although the law calls for dogs to be euthanised, there is no monitoring or proper enforcement of the law and so completely inhumane and barbaric means are being employed to kill these poor dogs including poisoning and dragging behind cars etc. What's more, non-officials have taken this law as a 'green light' for them to commit violent crimes against dogs and we have seen a rise in extreme violence towards dogs on the streets. It is a truly devastating development.

We have immediately acted to stop eight dogs from being slaughtered. Dogs that had been collected in off the streets and locked in a government shelter where they would have been killed if they hadn't died of disease first. These dogs included a young pup, three Golden Retrievers, two terrier type dogs, an emaciated Pointer, and an emaciated female GSD whose babies had succumbed to disease around her and she was left still leaking milk, chained up at the shelter. The dogs are all at risk of distemper and parvovirus since at least one of them has already tested positive for each. They are all in isolation and being tested regularly and monitored for symptoms of illness as we hope we can catch it early if it develops in the other dogs. Whether or not they all end up testing positive, we are certainly dealing with tick infections, scabies, one dog has a burn, giardia etc and hefty veterinary bills to get them healthy and to start them on a path to get them ready for travel to the UK. We need all the help we can get to get these dogs healthy and homed so that we can dive right in again to save more.
