My name is Numi, and I am a close mentor and trusted support person to Cjay, one of the three surviving children of the 2008 Lester Street massacre in Memphis, Tennessee, a case that shocked the nation and was featured on multiple platforms, including The First 48.
Cjay was only nine years old when he survived an unimaginable act of violence that took the lives of most of his immediate family, including his mom, dad, & multiple siblings. His testimony is what helped bring justice, but once the cameras left, so did the support.
Now grown, Cjay is a father and a fiancé, but unfortunately, he is currently homeless.
Despite what many assume, Cjay has received no long-term financial support, no victim compensation that lasted, no ongoing state assistance, and no meaningful help from the systems that once used his story for views & financial gains. He has applied for SSI and other aid and has been denied or left waiting with no relief.
Cash App has even flagged and blocked his account, making it harder for people to help him directly.
To make it worse, others have raised money in his name in the past and never gave him a dime. They blocked him, kept the funds, and left him retraumatized. This GoFundMe is different. It’s being created with Cjay’s full knowledge and consent. He will be the ONLY person withdrawing funds. My only role is helping him set it up and speak on his behalf as someone who knows him personally, deeply, and truthfully.
Cjay and his fiancé are currently living in their car on the streets of Memphis, a dangerous, unsustainable situation for someone who endured what he did, and still chooses to live with integrity and quiet dignity.
How Your Support Will Help:
• Safe and stable housing
• Food and basic necessities
• Vehicle upkeep and transportation
• Emergency survival needs
• A foundation for long-term healing and self-sufficiency
This isn’t about pity, it’s about justice, survival, and accountability. Cjay has carried a lifetime of trauma the world turned into profit, all while grieving, healing, and still living with questions that never got answered.
If you’ve ever watched his story, shared his name, cried for him, or followed the case, this is your chance to do more than feel. This is your chance to help him live, thrive, & finally know what support really means.
Anything helps. And everything is appreciated.
Please share widely, speak loudly, and let’s give Cjay the support he’s been denied for far too long.
On behalf of him and his family, thank you for making one of the biggest differences in his life.
