My sister is a recent survivor of domestic violence (DV). She took the difficult steps to protect herself and her children, but instead of finding stability, she faced retaliation from both her abuser and her landlord. She has now found a safe home, but with bills, legal costs, and car repairs, she urgently needs help to hold onto that stability while she rebuilds.
Help a Survivor and Her Children Find Safety
I am sharing this on behalf of my sister, who is a survivor of domestic violence. She took the difficult but necessary steps to protect herself and her children — including obtaining a protection order — but instead of receiving the stability she needed, she faced more obstacles from her landlord.
Rather than supporting her during a dangerous and stressful time, he ignored her safety concerns and evicted her. He even refused to repair the broken doors, leaving her unable to properly lock her own home. Despite this, she kept pushing forward for her children’s sake.
At the same time, her abuser used financial control to try to break her down. He drained their accounts, refused to pay her for work she did in the business they built together, and even tried to take her car. He destroyed her credit and left her with no money, then — working in tandem with the landlord — forced her and her children out with only two weeks to move.
Despite everything stacked against her, she managed to find a safe new home for her children. It was an incredible act of determination, but now comes the harder part: keeping that stability. She is facing months without steady income while also dealing with legal costs, a large car repair bill, and the basic expenses of raising children.
This is not just a landlord–tenant issue. It is a case of retaliatory eviction and financial abuse, leaving her and her children at risk when the law should have protected them.
My sister is not someone who likes to ask for help. She has carried so much on her own and has always tried to figure things out herself. But right now, keeping her family safe and stable is bigger than what she can manage alone. She has taken brave steps forward, and with your help, she can keep that progress from slipping away.
Every donation will go directly toward housing costs, groceries, car repairs, and legal fees. With your support, she can bridge this difficult transition until she regains her financial footing.
Her children are finally sleeping through the night in their new home — with your help, they can continue to grow up in safety and stability.
