Hello, my name is Tamara, and I am reaching out with a hopeful spirit.
For the past eight years, my two beautiful boys and I have lived under the shadow of violence. It has been a long, painful journey — one that left deep scars not just emotionally, but on the very walls that were supposed to protect us
In December, after a particularly significant violent attack, I finally said enough is enough.
I made the hardest — and most important — decision of my life: to leave.
The person who caused so much harm has since been sentenced to a minimum of 12 months imprisonment.
This has given us a window of time: a precious opportunity to rebuild, to heal, and to finally create the safe, loving home my boys and I deserve.
But we can’t do it alone.
Our home — the only one we have — is in desperate need of significant repairs before we can move back and begin to heal properly. We have been displaced from our home since December and have been staying with friends and family, couch surfing and sleeping in our car. But we are finally ready to take the leap and move back home.
Some of the urgent repairs needed include:
• Inserting a new external door where a large window was irreparably damaged (to create an additional exit if needed)
• Reinforcing and replacing the front door and door frame, which were damaged after being kicked in
• Reinforcing bathroom doors and door jambs to create a safe “panic room” if ever needed
• Installing roller shutters on windows to make us feel secure, especially when we're away from home
• Patching and repairing holes in the walls
• Painting the entire house to refresh the space and remove painful memories
• Replacing furniture throughout to create a new, comforting environment free of past reminders
• Upgrading floors where carpets were ripped out and existing boards are damaged from flooding
• Repairing lighting, including ceiling light sockets where bulbs were pulled out
• Repairing the smashed glass on the stove
• Installing new door handles on internal doors (handles have been purchased but require proper fitting)
This is just the beginning, but each step is vital for us to feel safe, secure, and start over with dignity.
Sadly, moving isn’t an option for us financially or logistically. This house is our best chance at a fresh start — but it needs your help to become a true home again.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to make essential repairs and create a safe, healing home. Every contribution — no matter the size — brings us closer to that dream
We are asking for help to:
• Cover repair costs
• Purchase safety and security upgrades
• Replace damaged furniture and basic essentials
• Turn our house into a peaceful, healing space
Every donation — big or small — will help us rebuild more than just walls. It will help us rebuild our lives, and give my sons a stable, loving home to heal and grow in.
After 8 years of violence, we are ready for peace.
We are ready to heal.
We are ready to come home.
If you are not in a position to donate financially but might have connections to tradespeople, supplies, security experts, or can help in any other way, we would absolutely love to hear from you.
Every bit of help — whether through skills, materials, or time — brings us closer to creating the safe home we need so badly.
