Surviving Jewish Community in Jekabpils Latvia
Donation protected
For several years, descendants of the Jewish community of Jekabpils, Latvia, have provided emergency support to the remaining elderly Jewish population of Jekabpils. In past years, we have assisted the community in meeting the needs of those on fixed pensions and those receiving holocaust reparations as they cope with rising costs for heating fuel, medical expenses and daily living.
The size of the aging community continues to dwindle. Another member of the community passed away this year, one is hospitalized with a broken hip, and still another is undergoing cancer treatment.
This fundraising effort will supplement assistance provided by leaders of the surviving Jewish community in Jekabpils to assist the elderly with rising heating costs, expenses related to the flood situation and other vital needs for those on fixed incomes.
