Surviving an AFE
Donation protected
Please consider donating to my daughter Carolyn and her boyfriend Michael’s expenses for travel from Harrison, MI to Saginaw, MI as well as lodging once Carolyn is released from the hospital.
You see on March 26th, 2019 the kids went into the hospital to be induced into labor for their daughters birth.
Things were going as planned, nice and slow progress. She was able to rest during the night after an epidural was administered. Then at 7:05am Carolyn started feeling as if she couldn’t breathe. Her Dr checked her over and quickly realized Mom and Baby Mallory were in serious danger. Carolyn went into Cardiac Arrest. The Dr’s immediate attention was a high factor in the outcome. Dr’s, Nurses and many other staff members were quick to respond to the situation. CPR was administered immediately and continued for a long stretch of time.
Baby Mallory was born by cesarean birth at 7:17am while Carolyn received CPR. Not once did she have a Cardiac Arrest but twice, and many times her pulse was not able to be found.
Shortly after delivery and while Dr’s were still trying to save Carolyn she began to hemorrhage causing Dr’s to remove her uterus. At just 25 years old she was now in the fight of her life.
A team of about 50 staff members worked tirelessly to save her life. Drs said she suffered an AFE. For more information follow this link, https://www.afesupport.org/
Because of all the trauma during delivery Baby Mallory was placed in the NICU on life support and needed to be cooled to a hypothermic temperature to prevent any possible swelling around her organs. She was on the cooling mat for 72 hours. The Dr’s then began to warm her body back up to a normal temperature range over the next 24 hours.
During this time Carolyn had been in ICU continuing to fight for her life. Many units of blood and blood products along with life support were needed to keep her going. Please consider being a blood donor.
Any donations received will be used for transportation, meals and lodging while trying to stay close to Baby Mallory while she is still in the NICU.
This family of 4 has been through so much in such a short time. Baby Mallory has a big sister who is almost 4 years old and cannot wait to meet her. They need all the love and support that you could possibly offer. Please pray for continued healing for both Mom and Baby Mallory. ❤️
