Surviving a category 5 Hurricane Beryl in Carriacou
Donation protected
Hi my name is Catherine Patrice, Hibbert
My parents brought me to England as a young girl for my education and a better life.
They returned home in 1989 to build their house in windward carriacou an island belonging
to Grenada. I had always longed to return and live in Carriacou.
After finding the man of my dreams, we began a rollercoaster romance and life together.
In my early fifties, I was diagnosed with cancer, with the care of the hospital and my loving partner family and friends, I made a successful recovery and am still in remission.
After this, we saw life differently and my partner John fell in love with the island of Carriacou on his first visit. So in 2018, we moved to Carriacou intending to start over cancer free and I’m bracing a new life. Together we built a beautiful home and life here with our dogs: max and sam
and quickly became an integral part of the community. We shared many happy years and beautiful memories until Johns passing in August 2023.
Life without John has become lonely and quiet and difficult at times.
With the support of those around me, I was finally getting myself into a routine and beginning to feel better about myself and my life.
Hurricane Beryl devastated the island in July 2024. It ripped off my roof and damaged doors and windows and patio pergola
I suffered months of no electricity and clean running water and no communication, and isolation.
Things are finally improving, and I have temporary electricity which is godsend as I can finally communicate with the outside world. I am grateful for the efforts of everyone on the island.
The government is subsidising some of the cost of materials but after unforeseen expenses, the loss of John and funeral expenses our funds depleted.
I am asking for any help with donations towards the repair of my house.
If you can give whatever you can, large or small, I would appreciate it greatly with all my heart.
God bless you all.
