My name is Kari and I am fundraising because I really need help for my dog. I am the proud owner of 7 Dogs that I take care of daily and I would do anything for them. The help that I need right now is urgent for my dog Louie. I rescued Louie in Feb. 2020, right before Covid hit. I discovered him being shared on instagram by a volunteer and I knew I needed to help him. I reached out to over 70 rescues in the LA area but due to the large tumor on his stomach , no one would even go see him because of the uncertainty. I wanted nothing more than to help Louie so I packed up my 2 small children and myself and we flew from our home in Maryland to South Los Angeles to rescue him.
When I arrived at the airport , I rented the largest SUV I could, I went to petsmart for a dog crate and I went to homegoods for a comfy bed. Then we set off to bust LOUIE OUT OF JAIL. When I arrived to get Louie I wasn’t sure what to expect but the video posted on line and his dirty adorable face callled to me especially his bunny ears. When I first met him in the yard where they take “lucky” dogs for a couple minutes a day to run around before placing them back in their cell,
I was told no one had been able to see Louie because he was kept in the back and not allowed out of his kennel at all because they feared he was aggressive.
When he came out he was not interested in hurting me or anyone else , he was very excited to be out of his cell and walked immediately over to the bushes and started using them to scratch his back. He still currently does this now. A sign he was an outdoor dog with no human pets. As I was getting him ready to go I noticed he has thick callous on every elbow from years of sleeping outside on pavement with no grass, his teeth are flat from chewing on rocks and sticks out of starvation and Bordem and he had a huge tumor that ran from his belly across his penis.
While checking him out of the high kill south LA animal shelter I was able to see the notes put on his paperwork. Apparently he was an exclusively out door only dog with his previous owner and they dropped him off because he kept messing up her bushes.
But the vet said “Louie has skin cancer and it was also obvious he has been sleeping on gravel and asphalt due to the large callous all over his body.” They even found a ball in his tummy.
The people at the shelter and the person who posted Louie on Instagram could not believe I had traveled so far to save him and they wanted to help me get his tumor removed. So I stayed in a cheap hotel and Louie spent the night at an animal hospital and had the tumor removed in the morning. When I first saw the surgery area I noticed it was open and looked very painful. I kept him on his pain meds and antibiotics and we started our cross country drive home.

We drove from California to Maryland with Louie. When I got home I took him to a neurologist and they stated he needed to have a large portion of his skin removed including his penis. Surgery was over $7500.00. I managed to find alittle help and I used most of my unemployment money to help Louie with that surgery. Louie has been doing wonderful since that surgery until May of this year. He needed to have some Lymphoma removed and I managed to have that done. He is happy and in good spirits but the lymphoma is aggressive. He has small tumors appearing on his body around his armpits and neck, he is still happy and enjoying life. I cannot afford another surgery and I fear they will put him down if I can’t get him help.
I have a balance of $1100 at Friendship Animal Hospital In Washington DC and they recused use to see Louie until I get this paid. When I do get him in he needs and ultra sound as well as lab work to see where we are at now and that is another $1k. My only focus is helping Louie but I need help. If you are able to help me could you please call the Friendship Animal Hospital in Washington DC at 202 .567. 2080 and pay directly to my account Kari Michaud, so that I can get Louie into the vet this week for help. They know me in the oncology department.
His name is Louie Michaud and he is such as soft soul. He was used as an outdoor dog to intimidate because of his size but he is a sweet pit mix and he literally sleeps with my chihuahuas.
He deeserves a fighting chance and the tumors are growing fast. Without intervention he will die fast.
please help. You may even text me at 202. 744. 5656
