Survival Fund for Incarcerated Trans Woman
Donation protected
Dear friends—
If we've spoken lately, I've probably talked your ear off about my pen pal, Mar, who is currently incarcerated at Mule Creek State Prison in California. She will remain there for the next five years, surviving as a transgender woman while imprisoned in a men's facility.
Mar has asked me to set up this gofundme page in an effort to offset costs for survival items. A breakdown of costs, if you're curious, can be researched more fully on the Walkenhorst's website by downloading their California catalog. Reading the catalog reveals the business of prison—one package per quarter and super high prices keep useful goods out and money in the company's pockets.
The money raised will provide Mar with:
-Long-sleeved shirts and other warm clothing (Mar is anemic and always cold, prison-provided clothing is insufficient)
-Underwear and bras
-Deodorant
-Shaving razors
-Soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and other toiletry items including gender-affirming makeup products
-Stamps, paper, and envelopes to continue writing letters
Mar is 26, aspires to be an architect and to build skyscrapers underwater, is passionate about poetry, music, and practicing her French. She is an incredible, loving, thoughtful person. She has been an exceptional friend to me through a rough time in my own life. Please help me support my friend and our community.
If you can't give, I encourage you to become a pen pal through the Prisoner Correspondence Project, Black and Pink, or SWOP Behind Bars. Take responsibility and connect with the incarcerated members of our community. A letter can open the world for both of you, as it has for me and Mar.
