My name is Carla, and I am creating this GoFundMe page on behalf of my Tia Elma and all of her siblings.
Elma is 54 years old and has spent her entire life under the care of my grandmother, and for the last few years, my Tia Letty, due to having a childlike mental capacity. Anyone who knows Elma knows how honest, funny, loving, innocent, and special she is, which makes watching her go through this incredibly heartbreaking.
Over the past year, Elma has been very sick, in and out of doctor’s appointments. Recently, due to an emergency hospitalization, our family received devastating news that she has an aggressive form of cancer. Her first procedure was a hysterectomy, and at the time, doctors believed she would recover and begin chemotherapy as soon as possible. Unfortunately, after her surgery, Elma became increasingly ill and required another hospital visit. It was then that we learned the cancer had metastasized to her liver.
Due to Elma’s mental capacity and overall condition, doctors determined that chemotherapy would severely impact her quality of life. With heavy hearts, our family was advised that hospice care would be the most compassionate option. As of a few days ago, Elma is no longer eating, and the events are progressing far more quickly than we anticipated.
Elma is currently in hospice care and is surrounded every day by family who love her deeply. She will not be alone—she will be held, comforted, and surrounded by love until the very end.
Because this all happened so suddenly, our family is not financially prepared for the expenses that come with hospice care and end-of-life arrangements. Any funds raised will help relieve the financial stress during this incredibly painful time, allowing us to focus fully on what matters most: being present with Elma and ensuring she is cared for with dignity, peace, and love.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, donating, and keeping Elma and our family in your thoughts and prayers.
