Surrounding Andy with Light: A Sacred Journey of Healing

My name is Kim Simmel, the loving wife of Andy Simmel for 34 years, and on December 22, 2025, our lives changed in an instant.

What began as an ongoing headache led Andy to the emergency room, where a CT scan revealed a brain tumor. In a single moment, we were called into a journey we never expected—a journey of courage, faith, and deep surrender.

After extensive testing, doctors discovered that the tumor originated in his sinus tract and had traveled into his brain. What followed were multiple hospitalizations, including serious complications with bilateral DVT in both legs and pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. To protect his life, a vena cava filter was placed to catch blood clots.

A biopsy revealed something rare and aggressive: metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses, with invasion into the dura and frontal lobe of his brain.

Andy underwent a craniotomy and tumor resection, a major and life-altering surgery. He is now courageously moving through 33 radiation treatments as part of his healing path. Due to the risks, chemotherapy is not an option. Despite everything, he continues to show incredible strength.

My name is Kim, and I am Andy’s wife. I have stepped into the role of full-time caregiver, not out of obligation but out of love. The kind of love that becomes action. The kind of love that sits beside him during treatments, frequent medical visits, drives him to radiation every single day, manages medications, coordinates appointments, and holds space through the physical, emotional, and mental waves that come with healing.

Our days are no longer what they once were. They are slower in some ways, heavier in others, but also filled with moments of deep connection, presence, and gratitude for even the smallest victories. Because of this, we are both currently unable to work.

Alongside the emotional and physical challenges, we are now facing a heavy financial burden. We are doing our best to stay afloat while navigating:

Medical bills and insurance costs
Daily living expenses including food and household needs
Mortgage and home bills
Gas for daily radiation and appointments
Medications to prevent further blood clots and seizures
Supplies needed for his care and recovery
The care of our four beloved puppies, who are part of our family and comfort

This has been a time of profound challenge but also one of deep love, resilience, and faith. We truly believe in the power of community, of prayer, of healing energy, and of people coming together in moments like this.

There is a quiet humility in asking for help. It is not always easy, but it is honest. We have come to understand that healing is not meant to be walked alone. There is a deeper, unseen thread that connects all of us, and in moments like these, that thread becomes visible through kindness, generosity, and compassion.

If you feel called to support Andy on his healing journey, any contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the weight we are carrying and allow us to focus on what matters most: his recovery. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page or simply holding Andy in your thoughts and prayers means more than words can express. Every act of kindness becomes part of his healing. Every ounce of love helps carry us forward.

Thank you for surrounding Andy and I with light, strength, and compassion. We feel it, and it means everything.
