Surprise 50th Anniversary Party for Rudy & Lucy

Rudy & Lucy met in middle school. Today, they prepare to celebrate their 50th anniversary together! Four children, six grandchildren, and one new grandbaby!

They have been blessed with a big, loving family, and millions of memories together.

The two started a family business in Laredo, TX. where they sold piñatas and other supplies to the community. Sometimes business provided, sometimes it did not. No matter what, there was one thing they never failed to give their children.. the lesson of family & perseverance.

Rudy and Lucy have lost a business, experienced medical scares from themselves and their children, the loss of loved ones, and so many other heartaches that life can throw us.

It us truly incredible how much the two have taken on in this life together!

Today, Lucy works as a full-time substitute in Laredo, TX. It is truly her passion, and taking a day off is almost never an option. "The children make my day, they make me so happy, it's like a family there". Rudy wakes up every day at 6am to drive her to work, making sure she is on time and ready to support her community. See, Rudy suffered a stroke many years ago and cannot work. But, that doesn't stop him from supporting her and EVERY single person who needs his help. From watching his grandchildren to helping strangers with car troubles, he will NEVER turn anyone down who is in need of help!

My parents have always lived a life of labor and struggle. It is also rare that they 'treat themselves' to even the smallest luxuries (or necessities like routine health care, etc.) My parents also never ask for anything from anyone..

Today, my dad has asked his children to help him throw a surprise anniversary party for my mother and him. (Those that have been lucky enough to meet Mr. Leyva know that he is one romantic man! From picking out the best roses to staying up late to sing her las mañanitas on her birthday, he will do whatever possible to remind her of his love).

Our dad never asks for anything. He has the kindest (and funniest) soul you will ever meet! To make this dream of his come true, would be an absolute BLESSING to watch!

Please consider donating anything you can to help make Mr. Leyva's dream come true. To honor a couple that has been together for almost 60 years. A couple that deserves a night of celebration, not only for all their hard work in raising a family and supporting the community of Laredo.. but for exhibiting a love that we all aspire to have. A love like Rudy and Lucy's!
