Gender Affirming Surgical Recovery for Grace
Donation protected
Hey there! I'm Grace, a disabled transgender person reaching a milestone in my care. After years of learning who I was and working hard to advocate for my health, I'm finally getting a gender-affirming hysterectomy and top surgery and will need extra help getting the care I need for my recovery. State insurance will likely cover the majority of medical procedures and expenses, but they don't do everything! I'll need help paying regular bills and paying for a variety of help with the most basic life tasks for several weeks. $1000 of this is also going directly to others in immediate need.
I suffer from a regressive, genetic condition that falls among the Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders. You may have even heard of hypermobile-type Ehlers Danlos (hEDS). This causes chronic pain and fatigue, gastric disorders, anxiety and depression, and frequent joint dislocation (subluxation). My life is lived around it, so I can't work or play in the ways I want to. Working inconsistently leaves me extremely vulnerable to expensive emergencies or illnesses.
My first surgery is my hysterectomy July 8th and it'll be four weeks of recovery. Top surgery will be in Winter 2024 and is eight weeks of recovery. I'm hoping to raise $4000 for my expenses and care for both. This money will go towards obvious things such as paying for rent, utilities, food, and transportation. Less obvious yet necessary things are medical supplies, accessibility devices, and physical therapy. I will also be compensating my friends and other kind folks for cooking, cleaning, bird care, driving, and holding juice boxes to my lips. The additional $1000 will be sent to other individuals in immediate need and mutual aid groups (receipts will be provided).
These surgeries mean everything to me, and I can't wait to feel myself in my body after I'm healed. The feeling of being closer to myself will be amazing! Thank you SO much in advance for your help. You have no idea what the security of being cared for does for my physical and mental health!
