Short story: Medical Staff in 2 Emergency Rooms in Southern California are in need of face masks to help take care of patients during the pandemic Covid-19 crisis. Please donate to help us secure an order.

Longer story: I’m an Emergency Room Registered Nurse working in Southern California. This GoFundMe is setup by medical staff that service Emergency Departments in two different hospitals. We have a great team of clerks, technicians, therapists, nurses and physicians that all are going to be needing additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to care for the masses of people affected by Covid-19 Coronavirus.

The staff have been given approval to use their own PPE if they provide it themselves. Hospitals have their own protocols regarding when/what type of PPE should be used and are in limited supply or restrict their use. Some staff feel they would like more protection that what CDC may recommends, as policies regarding what level of protection is needed seems to vary week to week, as well as determined by the amount of supplies on hand.  

We have secured an outside vendor that can reliably provide enough masks to the staff for personal use and at a reasonable cost. Working 12-16 hour shifts a person could go through 2 masks easily due to build up humidity. Between both facilities we estimate 300/simple masks as well as 100KN95/day would be needed, and those are conservative numbers based on current volume. 

Many of your have offered your sewing skills to provide cloth masks for us. While we applaud the help, these don’t offer the same protection an approved mask does. 

Friends, family, coworkers...For as little as $5/day you could be protecting somebody you know with masks for a day. Strangers, you are protecting the life of somebody that could be taking care of somebody you love. We look forward to serving you in these dangerous times.
