Surgery for Bear

Donation protected

I received Bear, a 6-year old Emotional Support Animal, when he was a tiny little puppy. Bear brought purpose and joy back to my life. Bear's favorite pleasures in life are chicken, fetching mini tennis balls, sleeping (and snoring) under the couch, and going to work. His tricks include sneeze, clap, roll-over, shake, army crawl, bunny twirl.

Sadly, on 7/11, Bear collapsed in the middle of the sidewalk and could not get up. When he did try to move, he was shaking in pain, and couldn't use his rear right leg.

The emergency clinic diagnosed a medial luxating patella, Grade 4 (out of 4) -- meaning the kneecap is permanently dislocated and cannot be manually repositioned. With the kneecap dislocated, the femur and tibia bones in his leg grind together, causing arthritis and muscle/tendon swelling and pain. Bear needs corrective surgery to prevent permanent lameness.

I have set a goal of raising $5,000, which will cover the surgery and 2 days of hospitalization.

In the procedure, the surgeon will deepen the groove behind the kneecap, realign the patella tendon, and tighten/loosen the capsule around the kneecap. The success rates are very high, so Bear could be running, and fetching tennis balls within 6 months following the operation.

Thank you so much for considering giving your support to my sweet Bear. Any contribution to help us reach our goal is deeply appreciated. We are truly grateful to you.
