Surgery to Save Thor's Eyes (Cataract Surgery)
Donation protected
Thor is a special little guy whose happy spirit has never faltered despite a series of unfortunate obstacles in his life. From being run over by a car and being severely abused by a former owner before we adopted him to developing diabetes and becoming blind after a botched kidney stone removal surgery in 2020, he continues to provide so much love to anyone who knows him.
For the past two years, Mike and I have had to make many sacrifices to pay for vet bills, mandatory prescription dog food, insulin, and eye specialist treatments. This has probably been the hardest, and most trying time in our lives, but we would do anything for the quality of Thor’s life. He is not "just a dog," but a member of our family. Despite his hardships, he still has a puppy spirit with lots of energy.
However, we are now stuck between a rock and a hard place. The pressure in Thor’s eyes has progressed to the point where he is developing ulcers. This can be treated with a myriad of costly eye drops, adding up to several hundreds of dollars every month, but discontinuing treatment will cause his eyes to worsen and be removed. The other option is to have cataract removal surgery, which although more expensive, would guarantee restoration of his vision (no more drops!) and a vast improvement to his quality of life.
This page was not easy for us to make, but we appreciate any support. We have also decided to donate any additional funds to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society so that other dogs like Thor are given a second chance at the life they deserve. ♥️
