This is my precious little Mollie. She is a 12 year old Maltese. Mollie has a wonderful personality, she is always happy and loves to give kisses.
On Thanksgiving it appeared that she might have had a stroke. Luckily we live close to a wonderful veterinary hospital called Sage in Redwood City, CA. It turned out that Mollie hadn't had stroke, but was suffering with a neck problem. While Doctor Diane Roberts was examining Mollie's test results she learned that Mollie has hyperparathyroidism. This has caused her body to produce too much calcium and created stones in her bladder.
I was given 2 choices: do nothing and Mollie will most likely die a painful death due to kidney disease within 6 months, or do surgery (to remove the tumor in the parathyroid gland and the stones in her bladder). I have no children and Mollie is the love of my life. The estimate for the surgery is $6,500 - $7,000. It seems like a fortune for surgery, but her doctor says these surgeries are generally successful.
I am praying that getting her the surgery is the right decision. I just can't image watching her die over the next 6 months.
Any help you can offer will mean so much to me (and to Mollie). Thank you for taking the time to read about Mollie. If you met her you would love her.
