Hey y’all, hate that we have to ask for help. But we need it. If you’ve been my friend or acquaintance over the past 8 1/2 years then you’ll know Jolene has been a loyal good girl to me for nearly all of my 20’s. She’s a beloved pup by anyone who’s ever met her, and has been nothing but a goofy positive force in all of the lives she’s touched in her time so far. In the last couple weeks her capability of digestion has declined rapidly to the point where she wasn’t keeping food down. After a visit to the vet an EKG revealed a heart arrhythmia which later found to be a symptom of a tumor found on her spleen. This tumor is pushing on her intestines and making it incredibly difficult for her to digest, and in turn expel waste from her body. This means the spleen needs to be removed before the tumor bursts.
As it stands we are home, with anti nausea and stomach medication. Jolene is comfortable and snuggly with a major appetite. However, we will return to the vet on Monday for an ultrasound that will ultimately determine whether or not 1) her heart is strong enough for the operation. 2) if the tumor is benign or has been caught early enough to successfully be removed (it has not yet burst). My goal is to provide Jolene with what she’s provided me- unrelenting support and immeasurable love.
If her heart is able, and her spleen can be removed- I would like to go forward with the “Splenectomy”. That very ominous and serious (but fake sounding) word could very well cost north of $8,000- including the initial $2500 that will have been spent as of Monday (5/22).
It’s an incredibly expensive procedure for an incredibly important little girl. I owe it to her to do whatever I can to make this process as comfortable and successful for her as possible. But I remain aware of the possibility that success may not be an option, and while devastating it is equally realistic. I am preparing for either outcome and am grateful and thankful for your support whatever may come. Thank you for reading this and being apart of Jolene and I’s life. Thank you for contributing and/or spreading the word in any way you can.
