My name is Cam, and this fundraiser is for my dear friend Shauna. We humbly come to you asking for your help. In November 2022, Shauna had to make an impossible medical decision based on test results that no one ever wants to receive, and as a result, Shauna now urgently needs a hysterectomy. This surgery would help ensure that precancerous cells inside their body do not have the option to divide and spread, which we have been told they will do. As some of you may remember, Shauna's mom had to have a hysterectomy in July 2022, and it is truly a cruel twist of fate that not even six months later, Shauna must undergo the same intensive surgical procedure.
No one wants to be dealing with this, especially someone in their early thirties. The one silver lining is that we caught it early, but we still need your help in dealing with this scary situation. It is imperative that this surgery happens as soon as possible, so a pre-surgical outpatient procedure and the hysterectomy have to happen before the end of this year. This means that instead of celebrating the holidays with family and friends, Shauna will be spending Christmas, New Years, and the entire month of January recovering and healing, both physically and emotionally. We require your financial support so that we can provide Shauna with a calm, stress-free space to heal, without having to worry about finances on top of everything else.
Recovering from a hysterectomy is not an easy road, and Shauna will be dealing with pain, extreme discomfort, and stress, as any of you who have also dealt with cancer or surgery can surely attest. The recovery time is a minimum of six weeks, and it is absolutely important for Shauna's overall wellness to be able to take that time off from work. Being a barista involves being on your feet constantly, so if Shauna were to go back too soon, the consequences could be dire.
Taking six weeks off of work is not a luxury most of us can afford, so your donations would not only help pay for the procedure itself, but would cover:
- subsequent medical bills
- prescriptions and OTC medications
- utilities (water, phone, electric)
- recovery items and medical supplies that will aid in Shauna's healing
Many of you donated to help Shauna's mom pay for her surgery and recovery earlier this year, and thanks to everyone's generous donations, the surgery went well and she was able to take the time she needed from work to recover. Many of you had never even met Shauna's mom, but reached out through the internet to help a stranger because of your love for Shauna, which touched all of our hearts more than you know. I know I speak for Shauna and Shauna's mom when I say they are eternally grateful for that support.
Whether it's a dollar, five dollars, twenty dollars, any amount you can spare will make a difference and help Shauna on this journey. Anything you can do to help ease their stress will be worth it. For those who would like to show your love in other ways, Shauna also has an Amazon Wishlist where you can purchase items that will be helpful to have during recovery, like:
- adaptive tools to help around the house
- pain relief items like heating pads
- supportive clothing and pillows, and more.
The link for their wishlist is: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/34JYZCZ2L4UGJ?ref=cm_sw_em_r_un_un_1RLvJ28ZhoyXN and items will be conveniently shipped directly to our house.
If you are unable to help financially, that's okay. We know it's hard out here, and the pandemic has especially been unkind these past few years. You are still able to help Shauna by sharing this fundraiser page on social media! Just copy and paste the link to twitter, facebook, or place it in your instagram bio.
Thank you so much for reading. I will continue to update this page as time moves forward. We appreciate each and every one of you. <3 - Cam
