When I was 8 years old my brother, Josef, and I begged our parents for a puppy. Not an unfamiliar story I'm sure! Anyway, we made every promise we could think of to be the most responsible, well behaved kids. And for some reason, my parents believed us! My little sister, Lexi, was 2 years old at the time and remembers sitting in her car seat as we drove home discussing names for our new fox-red furry family member. Samantha, Sammy for short, became the center of our lives and she loved that attention whether it was positive or negative! You could spend hours here reading a laundry list of the crazy things Sammy has gotten into but I'll just list a few for comedic relief before I get to the point. You see, Sammy started her attention career simple, chewing a pacifier here, a remote control there. She quickly promoted herself to strewing trash throughout the house while we were gone and even went for a used menstrual product raid a couple times! Her most luxurious crime was stealing Thanksgiving dinner off the counter! Her most heinous crime? chewing on my mom's new mini-van door handles! And her most infamous? chewing a hole in the wall of our entry way! I bet you're thinking it was on a corner spot where she could get a good bite but no... she gnawed right in the middle of a wall in our front room where everyone would see her signature "Sammy was here," bite marks. I think back on those early years and can't help but laugh now. It almost makes me sad though, that those years are gone. Sammy has aged into a sweet old lady, but even in her elderly years she leaves her legacy to our two other dogs, who carry out her orders now. Over the past couple years she has had to deal with a fair share of health complications. She had a major hysterectomy surgery about a year ago that saved her life after her ovary exploded! The costs took a toll on my family to say the least. Now we are faced with another big obstacle. Sammy has a basketball sized tumor attached to her spleen which thankfully has not spread to her lungs yet. The costs pose the biggest concern. We are looking at a $3,000-$6,000 dollar surgery that could have really costly risks. I'm begging for anything you're willing to give. We've considered all the options and still surgery is our best rount. If there's a way to spend more time on earth with my beloved fur baby (who has been my rock through the most hellish turmoil of puberty) I will sure as heck find a way. I don't want to loose my closest companion because of money. Please, even just a dollar helps. Thank you for reading and if you can donate I have many more stories to offer in exchange. You will be helping to create more. Thank you and please share.
