Piper was found by the side of the road near Forfar, Angus, last Thursday after a suspected hit and run. An x-ray on Friday revealed a closed fracture in his leg (mid-shaft tibiotarsus). The good news is that he’s a big, strong bird—weighing in at 1.5kg—and he’s survived the initial shock of the accident. He’s currently alert, eating well, and drinking, which gives him a really high chance of a full recovery if we can get his leg fixed.
Because it’s a clean break and hasn't pierced the skin, we've found a vet who will perform the surgery and who has given a good prognosis.
The estimate is £500.
Vet surgery: Fife Exotic Vets
The money will cover the cost of drugs, orthopaedic implants and consumable costs. They will insert an intramedullary pin and external fixator with a second procedure to remove the implants.
If you can help with Piper's vet bill we will be forever grateful and so will Piper.
