Surgery for our sweet Honey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah and I would like to introduce you to the goodest girl, and my little furry best friend, Honey.
Honey is a rescued Malinois mix and has been part of our family since 2013. As a young pup she was the most agile dog I'd ever seen - once scaling the ladder to "help" my husband put up the Christmas lights and often sailing over the fence to go explore at the park. She'd always come running back when we called her though, smiling from her adventure!! Her first trip to the snow she was bounding around like a little wild coyote and you've never seen an animal so happy to plunge into a snowbank! Honey has brought so much laughter and love to our family.
As the years have gone on she has slowed down and plumped up (as so many of us do), learned to stay in the yard and off the ladder, and has become my constant companion and little shadow. Although she loves all her people, she and I share a special bond. She is always at my side - we are so connected that sometimes she won't even eat until I get home!
I dont know what I would have done without her the past few years. My husband and I have each lost a parent in that time, I had health concerns that ended in surgery, and was also involved in a traumatic car accident. It's been a lot! Through it all she offered me that unwavering support and love that only a beloved pet can. She was always right there to cuddle me as I grieved and stayed nearby when I was recuperating. She was a light in the dark.
Now, with your help, I am hoping to return the favor.
Honey needs surgery to repair her tibia. She broke it 8 weeks ago jumping off the bed in our room. At that time, surgery was so expensive that the decided upon course of treatment was splinting. We faithfully took her to be sedated and resplinted weekly. We have kept her on round the clock pain meds and sedatives to keep her calm and try to let her body heal.
We have exhausted our finances and a large portion of the care credit we were able to obtain. Last Friday our vet took x-rays and we were devastated to find out that the bone is not healing.
We are left with two options - surgery or putting her down.
She is still alert and healthy. She has been the best sport through all the procedures and hobbles around like a champ. She wags her tail and wants to be as close to her people as she can. Our favorite vet tech calls her a "gumdrop" because she is just so sweet. Even though she is older and injured it doesnt feel like it is her time to go. And I know I am not ready to say goodbye
Ending her life because of money feels horribly cruel.
Our vet suggested crowdfunding and although I feel funny asking, I know I wouldnt be able to forgive myself if I didnt at least try.
Surgery will be between $7,000-9,000. She will continue to need medication and follow up care. We are hoping that with your loving donations we will be able to get her the care she desperately needs and not have to say goodbye before it is time.
Thank you for your kind consideration and for sending our family and our sweet Honey Boo your best wishes. And if you can not donate, perhaps you would please be willing to share this on your page?
With love and gratitude,
Sarah
