Emergency Surgery for Mint - Bladder stone removal

Donation protected

Hello, my names Daniella and I am fundraising for our guinea pig Mint.

We rescued Mint as a 6 week old baby along with his brother Liquorice. They had been left at an animal shelter. Tragically, we lost Liquorice suddenly in 2021 due to an undiagnosed bladder stone despite taking him for all the diagnostics.

To get Mint a companion, we then adopted Kenny who had also been surrendered to the animal sanctuary.

Fast forward to recently, Mint started squeaking when urinating last week, so we took him straight to the vets where he was diagnosed with a large bladder stone. We are thinking it may be genetics at this point due to losing his brother to the same thing.

Mint has undergone part of the surgery, however there were complications when attempting to remove the stone. It was semi embedded in the bladder lining which meant that due to swelling and inflammation, they had no choice but to stop the procedure half way through as his vitals were dropping.

This means that Mint has to go in for a second round of surgery next week. To make
matters worse, he had to go back into overnight care last night due to a sudden swelling the size of a golf ball, appearing near the wound site which is going to require scans today to determine whats causing it, meaning more costs.

Whilst we were semi prepared with funds for an emergency, nothing could have prepared us for the cost of this surgery and the implications.

Unfortunately, to make the funding situation worse, his companion Kenny ALSO had to go in last night as his guts have stopped working.

He went to the vets with Mint as they should be kept together and when we got them both home, I could tell Kenny wasnt himself within an hour of him being home. He was very lethargic, not interested in his grass and his poops were very small. So he is now at the vets undergoing treatment as well.

The current bill is already sat at nearly £1500 (for both guinea pigs vet costs) with much more treatment to go.

Having two emergencies a the same time has crippled us financially.

We just want to do whats best for the boys as I love them to pieces and anyone that knows me, would say that I dedicate my everything to these pigs and that they are well looked after.

But in the current economic climate with everything costing SO much, we cant afford any more bills.

So, if you would like to donate to the boys. We would be forever grateful. The money will be used to pay the vet bills for whatever Mint needs to recover from this bladder stone and for whatever treatment Kenny has had/needs.

We just want the best for Mint as hes so fill of life, despite the traumatic surgery hes been through and continues to go through. Hes an absolute trooper. Hes a very cheeky, chatty and funny little man with mountains of personality. We would be absolutely devastated to lose him. ❤️
