My son Kowen is 15 and has Friedreich’s ataxia. He has a heart condition as well as Scoliosis. We have been in the government waiting list to get rods put in place to straighten his spine but as we didn’t get in quick enough, he is not eligible to get this done and now needs a spinal fusion and will have to wait between 6 to 8 months for this. We have been told if his spine moves any further this will not be possible and will not be able to have any surgery. The photo’s are pictures of his spine front and back and the effect it is having on him. He is in constant pain, relying on pain patches for his pain. Kowen is only able to attend school 3 classes a day as he cannot sit in chairs for a long period of time as the pain is to much pressure on his spine. He wants to be able to hang with his mates play sport and go to the gym as most teenagers would but Kowen is stuck at home unable to do the things he loves. I would love to be able to pay for this surgery myself but the price is $50,000 all contributions would go towards this surgery to help my son have the life he wants to have and that all teenagers deserve. Any help would be greatly appreciate to get my boy back.
