Surgery for John Uribe

My name is John Uribe, and I currently live in Chile. I am 35 years old. I will tell you about my situation: Four years ago, I had surgery for a hernia at L5S1. Since the operation, the pain in my spine has never ceased. Two years ago, I started seeking help from different neurosurgeons in Chile—specifically, nine doctors. They all prescribed medication as the only way to manage the pain, saying I would have to live with it for the rest of my life because there was no other solution due to the discopathy caused by the hernia surgery.

In November 2024, I began experiencing slight numbness in my right leg, so I visited a doctor in Iquique, the city where I live. He recommended an MRI to see what was happening. The results showed that I now have herniated discs again, this time at L4/L5 and L5S1. He referred me to the neurosurgeon who had previously operated on me. Upon visiting him, he informed me that these were central hernias and could not be operated on, so I had to continue as I was and only take pain medication. I was diagnosed with severe multilevel lumbar spinal stenosis, along with hernias in the L4/L5 and L5S1 discs.

Not satisfied with this response, I sought another opinion and saw three more doctors. They all gave different opinions, but all of them suggested only medication and living with the pain. None of them could explain why my legs were also suffering. After this, I began to think they were all right, and I would have to live with the pain. Then, I decided to seek help outside the country. I found a neurosurgeon specializing in the spine. He reviewed all the tests I had already undergone and diagnosed me with severe multilevel lumbar spinal stenosis along with hernias in L4/L5 and L5S1.

The solution to this is two surgeries: one to remove the hernias and hydrate and strengthen the discs, and a second surgery to trim part of the vertebrae where a callus had formed. This callus was compressing the nerve roots, preventing them from moving freely, causing my legs to suffer more each day and making it increasingly difficult to walk.

This doctor was the only one who wanted to help me and provided explanations for each ailment my body is currently experiencing.

The surgery I need consists of two operations: one to remove the hernias, hydrate, and strengthen the discs, and the second operation to trim part of the vertebrae where a callus had formed. The cost for this surgery is $12,000 USD, which covers only the surgery. Additional expenses include supplies, clinical stay, rehabilitation with kinesiology therapy, a lumbar belt, a stay in Peru, and everything that entails a one-month stay in that country. All of this adds up to approximately $14,000 USD.

Mi nombre es John Uribe actualmente vivo en chile tengo 35 años , les contare sobre mi situación: hace 4 años me operaron de una hernia en L5S1, luego de operación hasta el día hoy nunca se acabaron los dolores en mi columna, hace 2 años comencé a buscar ayuda con distintos neurocirujanos en chile para ser más exacto 9 médicos, los cuales solo me daban medicamentos y que era la única manera de pasar los dolores ya que tenía que morir con ellos porque no había otra solución ya que producto de la hernia que me operaron quede con discopatía. En noviembre del 2024 comencé con pequeños adormecimientos en mi pierna derecha por lo cual acudí a un médico de Iquique ciudad donde vivo, y el me recomenzó hacer una resonancia magnética para ver que estaba pasando , al tener los resultados me indican que nuevamente tengo hernias discales pero esta vez en L4/L5, L5S1 , por ende me derivo a un neurocirujano el cual me había operado, una vez que lo visite me dice que son hernias centrales y no se pueden operar por eso tengo que seguir como estoy y solo tomar medicamentos para el dolor. Me diagnosticaron canal estrello lumbar multinivel severo, junto con 2 hernias en los discos L4/L5, L5S, sin quedar conforme con su respuesta comencé a buscar otra opinión llegué a ver 3 médicos y todos me daban opiniones distintas, pero todas eran solo medicar y vivir con el dolor, pero ninguno de ellos me podía explicar que por qué mis piernas también estaban sufriendo. Después de esto comencé a pensar que todos tenían razón y debía vivir con el dolor, hasta que un día pensé buscar ayuda fuera del país, y encontré un médico neurocirujano especialista en columna vertebral y el reviso todos los exámenes que ya me habían echo y me diagnostico canal estrecho lumbar multinivel severo junto con hernias en L4-L5 ,L5S1, la solución a esto es 2 operaciones, una por microcirugía para poder sacar las hernias e hidratar y fortalecer los discos donde están las hernias, y una segunda operación para limar parte de las vertebrar donde se formó callosidad las cuales no dejan que las raíces nerviosas se muevan con tranquilidad si no que están presionadas por esto es el motivo que mis piernas cada día sufren mas y me cuesta cada día caminar. Este médico fue el único que me quiso ayudar y dándome las explicaciones a cada dolencia que tiene mi cuerpo en este momento.

La operación que me debo realizar consiste 2 operaciones, una por microcirugía para poder sacar las hernias e hidratar y fortalecer los discos donde están estas hernias, y la segunda operación es para limar parte de las vértebras donde se formó callosidad las cuales no dejan que las raíces nerviosas se muevan con tranquilidad.

Los costos para esta operación son de 12 mil dólares americanos este valor es solo por la operación y quedan exentos gastos como insumos y estadía en clínica, rehabilitación con kinesioterapia, faja lumbar, estadía en Perú y todo lo que conlleva estar 1 mes en dicho país. Al sumar todo esto hace un total aproximadamente de 14 mil dólares americanos.
