In a freak accident, Delilah was seriously injured when she caught her hind leg between the mattress and bedframe while jumping off the bed. She never hit the ground, but hung there screaming. Luckily, I was right there and was able to pick her up and imobilize her.
We took her to the vet who was closing in 5 minutes, and we were directed to an animal ER another 20 minutes away. We found out that her leg was not broken, as we feared, but her hip was dislocated and the ligament from hip bone to pelvis was torn.
Our options were few, and expensive. The recommendation at the ER was to leave her there for the weekend, and have the surgeon give us an estimate and plan of action on Monday. By the time we got to just that point, the cost estimate was for $1000.
We opted for manually resetting the hip, and binding her legs limiting her movement. Her pain would ease, but the likelyhood of it redislocating was very high, nearly 100%, due to her size and high energy level breed. But we couldn't afford anything else.
The manual reset failed. Delilah, even medicated, wasn't having it, and risked harm to herself if the proceeded. Now our options were fewer.
At this point, we have already paid $597.33 just to find out what's wrong and some pain medicine. We decided to bring her home and not stay until Monday, and as you can see in the picture, she is in pain and exhausted. She cries when we leave the room because she's scared, and I can't even afford to see the vet on monday, but we'll go anyway.
We are going to try and get carecredit for her. But I'm not counting on it, and even if we do get it, I want to pay it off as soon as possible, or not have to do it at all, because the holidays are coming.
Are kids say this is more important. Delilah needs us, and she is a part of our family. We are of one mind on this.
Please, help us with getting Delilah surgery. If she doesn't get it, her quality of life will suffer, and we will be repeating this heartache again and again as the ligament that holds it in place has failed. The risk of hip displacia is increased. We don't know what the cost will be. I'm guessing when I put $2000. Anything would help.
I don't want to ask, I don't like to ask, but I have to ask. Thank you.
