Surgery For Boone - The Aussie Puppy
Donation protected
Boone (or Boone-bear, if you know him well) is a 4-month old Australian Shepherd. He was born in the mountains of Boone, North Carolin (hence the name) and was a Thanksgiving miracle to the Middleton household (that's us).
Boone was gifted to me, Leah, as an emotional support animal and best friend. I struggle with anxiety, and as an effort to help with it, my husband, Joe, decided that it was time to adopt a new member into the family. Since then, we have been inseparable; we'd spend our days in the office at work or hiking/walking in our hometown, Asheville. It's very rare that you will not see us together, as he's quickly become my sidekick.

A recent unfortunate (and pretty absurd) event has occurred where Boone has fractured his back left leg in three separate places. To no one's fault, Boone was at the dog park where he was greeting me and fell back on his own leg. We rushed to our local vet to get him x-rayed where they found his leg fractured in the three separate places. They suggested we take Boone to REACH for further examination and discuss surgery options. It was inevitable that surgery was in Boone's future.
When we went to REACH, they confirmed that surgery was needed. But with it being a Friday afternoon (and our luck) they were unable to have a surgeon examine him properly until Monday morning. Joe and I both work full-time in the service industry and were unable to make sure that Boone got the attention he deserved during this fragile time. So, we decided to allow them to keep him for the weekend to reassure his pain was well-managed and he was kept comfortable.

The $5,000 is not the total cost for his leg surgery and hospitalization. This is just the amount that we're needing assistance. The $5,000 will just cover his surgery alone, not including his weekend stay. We're in high hopes that his recovery will be fast and smooth, as his age is playing in his favor. Ladies and gentlemen, I do not say this very lightly... We do not do this sort of thing at all. We have had many financial obstacles come our way, more recently than ever before, and have conquered them all. But when REACH hospital gave us the bill for Boone's medical needs, we just could not believe it, or afford it.
The thing is, he is worth every single little penny of it. Being only 4 months old, he has so much life to live and so much energy for it all. When approaching Boone, you will be stricken by his icy blue eyes, his odd white face (which isn't common for Aussies we found out), and his wagging tail. He is a charmer, a loving little pup that adores every person, child, and dog he meets. He quickly took to us as his family and it felt so natural for him to be part of our household. It breaks our hearts that as his pawrents we weren't able to protect him from this crazy accident.
Boone is scheduled to see his surgeon on Monday (February 18th) to make a game plan of what he will need, which will most likely be pins to support his fracture and heal his leg without any issues during his growth. We will be sure to keep you all updated as Boone goes through this surgery and recovery.
Any donation is appreciated, big or small, and please only donate if you are able. We would not want anyone to be in financial hardship to help with Boone's medical surgery.
Here's just a brief video of Boone's training at 4 months old... With his injury, we will be putting this on hold until he is fully recovered. But, can't help but share how far he's already come as a pup.
