Hello, my story is long but here is the short version. In 2021, I was evicted from my home and became homeless. I lived on the streets of Atlanta for a year until I was arrested for squatting in an abandoned building to get out of the cold. I was falsely accused of robbery, burglary, among other things. I spent a year in Clayton County Jail. From there, I was released and homeless again. This is when I sought help for my substance abuse disorder. I went to Sober Living of America and changed the entire trajectory of my life. I got a job, worked the program, and after 9 months, graduated. I bought a car and moved into my own place. I had my third child, and things were good.
Until 2 months ago when I found out I had 6 kidney stones in my right kidney, 2 obstructing. Wellstar did surgery and placed a stent to help my kidney drain. However, the stent was placed incorrectly, and complications from this caused pain, bleeding, infection, lethargy, and 5 additional hospitalizations in the last 2 months. I have missed so much work that I am afraid I might lose my job. I am one month behind on rent and seeking any assistance I can find.
I know what it's like to go months without a shower, and I have eaten out of dumpsters. I have lived through and survived hell and came out the other side stronger. Just because I know I can handle something does not mean that I want to handle it again. I don't want to lose my house or my son or this life I have built through blood, sweat, and tears. So please, if you are able, any amount will help. Please donate and pass this along to anyone you think may be able to help. If you know of community resources that might be helpful, please message me.
