Surgery and medical expenses for Lala
Donation protected
I started the gofundme to help with medical and surgery expenses for Ashley and Steve's fur baby LaLa. Ashley and Steve are both teachers. Ashley is a special education teacher who works with special needs children at a public school in Staten Island. Steve is a physical education teacher and coach in Howell. As many other young teachers they both have acquired many student loans.
Like many teachers this past year they had to navigate through Covid and remote teaching, it has been very difficult year to say the least. They have managed like many to due their best to make it work for their students, family, friends and even parents of their students will tell you how caring, supportive and loving they are to everyone they know.
So many times they have come to the aid of family and friends in there community, whether it is emotionally, financially or just giving their time to help those in need. They never ask for anything in return. That is why I am asking for them. Ashley and Steve wanted to expand their family, so they did with a fur baby LaLa. She is a mini- poodle and was 8 weeks when they brought her home. She is now two weeks shy of 5 months. LaLa has brought such joy and happiness to them and everyone who knows her. LaLa loves to play, cuddle, get belly rubs, give lots of kisses and is just a bundle of excitement, energy, and love.
Ashley and Steve are just absolutely crazy in love with her. They love to teach her new tricks, play and just hangout and cuddle.
Friday night was like any other night getting ready to go to bed (Lala loves to sleep in bed with them). When LaLa was running into the bedroom, like she normally does, she was so excited she dashed into the bedroom and as she tried to stop she couldn't get traction on the hardwood floors. She went sliding and stepped wrong on her front leg. This resulted in her breaking her front right leg. It was just a split second, life changing freak accident.
They rushed her to the veterinary emergency hospital. They handed her over in the parking lot and were told they could not be with her due to Covid.
The doctor called to tell them the x-ray showed she had broken her ulna and radius bones and would need surgery.
The surgeon called to say she would need a metal plate put in to repair the bones. After the surgery was completed the doctor informed them that her front growth plate had been affected and one of the bones was shattered. The surgery alone costs $6,000.00. After, finding out the bone was shattered she requires an additional splint with x-rays and change of the splint every two weeks for the next 8 weeks. As many dog owners know, one round of x-rays can cost up to $500.
I am asking for any donation to help get Lala back to her healthy self.
