Hi Everyone! As some of you may know Willie was rescued from a puppy mill in Taiwan earlier this year where he lived in a cage for 3 years and was used solely for breeding. He would have died or been sold to a slaughterhouse if he wasn’t rescued by Love And Second Chances Rescue. We adopted him in early March & despite all he has been through, he is the sweetest, most loving boy.
Willie arrived in the US with scabs, scars, rotting teeth, completely emancipated, in such bad shape the vets were shocked he was still alive but he's a fighter! His first couple weeks in the US he battled to gain weight, suffered from a bad case of pneumonia, all while regurgitating the majority of his food and water. Fast forward to today, a surgeon specializing in upper airway obstruction in dogs has discovered that Willie has an abnormally elongated soft palate, practically closed nostrils, a hernia in his stomach, a partially collapsed larynx, and swelling in his small intestine. This combination of issues leaves him struggling everyday to take a breath & regurgitates his food all day every day. Again, the surgeon says it is a miracle he is still alive today.
Without theses surgeries, it is unknown how long Willie will be able to survive. We will do everything possible to get him the surgeries he needs (Nares and Soft Palate surgery, stomach hernia repair, larynx surgery, and intestine biopsy). Yes, this is A LOT of surgery but if he gets them done he has a SIGNIFICANT chance at a living a long, happy, healthier life. To anyone who has been following Willie's recovery journey and would like to contribute to his costly surgeries, our family would be so grateful.
