Hello.

My name is Jan and I’m hosting a fund raiser for my brother Bill Soule.

Bill planned for his retirement. He and his wife Donna worked hard. Bill was a police officer for 32 years, serving his community.

In retirement when they needed extra funds they took on jobs and soldiered on. Because what they didn’t plan on was cancer.

Cancer made it’s ugly appearance in:

2012 - throat cancer, stage four, very lucky to survive after surgery, chemo and radiation

2018 - prostate cancer

In the last few months Bill has faced a series of surgeries to remove extremely painful ulcers under his tongue on October 4 and November 1. The painful swellings may be linked to his radiation treatment in that area.

While we are fortunate in Canada to have a hospital treatment covered there are a lot of attendant costs that quickly drain a bank account.

Bill and Donna have been getting by even as their car died and their mortgage doubled but now …

On Christmas Eve a swelling under his tongue suddenly got massive, he couldn’t swallow, had trouble talking. He was admitted to hospital after going to ER on Christmas Day. Exploratory surgery to biopsy and drain the mass was done on Boxing Day.

Three surgeries in three months.

So now they wait. They wait for answers. They wait for biopsy results. They wait for healing. And they watch bills pile up that their pensions can’t cover.

Bill has been on medical leave from his job since September and will not be able to return to work until the end of February at least.

He is a proud man, but my brother needs temporary help while he recovers.
