Surf Equipment for the Kids in Manokwari, West Papua
Donation protected
When talking to the local surfers in Manokwari, it became clear how much they need proper surf equipment, especially for the kids in the village. The kids currently share a few surfboards, which are not only in very poor condition and badly damaged, but also mostly too large for them to use safely and effectively. Essentials like leashes, fins, and wax are also in short supply. Getting surf gear to Manokwari is very difficult, and there are no local shops where it can be purchased.
Most of the boards in the area are donations from tourists and friends.
Watching the kids of Abasi turn the sea into their playground left me in awe. They surf with so much passion on simple wooden boards, showing a love for the sport that is so pure. It’s important to note that these donations are not meant to change the traditional surf culture or the wooden boards used in the area. The goal is simply to equip the next generation of surfers with the right tools to continue their passion safely and effectively.
My goal is to organize all the needed surf gear together with local shapers and surf shops in Bali, and bring it from there to Manokwari.
By sourcing the equipment from within Indonesia, I hope to support local businesses while making the logistics more manageable.
Your donation will provide the essential gear they need to surf more safely and develop their skills. It will also have a lasting impact on the community by empowering these young surfers and ensuring their love for the sport continues to grow.
These kids are a true inspiration!
Thank you so much for supporting them on their journey.
