S.U.R.E-Beacon Center-Due to Treatment I recieved
Hi,
I'm Mark and I am about to brave a 10km run on the 10th October (rain or shine).
This is by far the furthest I have ever run; I am not a natural runner but during the Covid lockdown, I found myself putting foot to tarmac and surprised myself when I completed the Couch25K plan. So.. I set myself a challenge to double it!
I am a Leukaemia patient. I have had CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia) for over 10 years and I am currently on treatment which will hopefully keep this condition under control for a while.
I wanted to run with a purpose so I have chosen two charities that work so hard in supporting and caring for others.
SURE is a charity supports the Beacon Centre at the Musgrove Hospital in Taunton. The Beacon Centre is a wonderful facility. I have been under the care of the staff there since my move to Somerset in 2010. I have received outstanding support during this time and I extremely grateful for this service. Supporting SURE is a way of supporting the Beacon Centre. Find out more on their website - https://www.surecharity.org.uk/
I am also running for Rowan Romania which is a charity that supports adults with special needs in Romania. Please click on the link below for more information.

So, if you can spare a few pence or pounds for these charities, I would be very grateful. It am so pleased to be able to run for them.
This will be virtual run under the World Unite Banner. Basically, this means I will be running on my own rather than in a group but all will be above board... Libby, my wife, will cycling the route with me to time me and to make sure I don't pass out!! :)
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
