Hello!
My name is Jonathan Logan, and I am the writer and director of Refuge, my 3rd MFA film at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Refuge follows the story of 20-year-old Jeremiah, who has returned home from college for the holidays. In this story, Jeremiah confronts his unresolved grief around his grandmother's passing on a day he is sent out to run errands after an argument breaks out between his parents, an experience very familiar to him. While out, interactions with strangers and people from his past guide him to finding the closure and clarity he has struggled to attain.
Writing this story has been a journey from as far back as 2022, during my senior year at Howard University, and I am excited to be able to bring this project to life and share it with you all. I lost my paternal grandmother in 2013 when I was 12 years old, and for a long time, I struggled with the feelings that grew out of that moment. This story, in one aspect, serves as my love letter and act of remembrance to her. In this story, we explore themes of grief, parental conflicts, and the effects they have on children and adults. As this story is set in New York, we also explore the idea that strangers, in some of the most unexpected situations, can end up providing us with a lesson or words that ultimately help us view a situation with new eyes.
For us to bring this story together, however, we do need your help! We are currently looking to raise $5,500 for production needs for filming that will begin at the end of December/early January. Thank you so much in advance for all of your help and support in making this story, and we look forward to bringing this to you.
Thank You!
