Hi! My name is Jessica and I started What's Up Dog! LA (wudla) back in 2011. Wudla is a small 501c3 non-profit. We focus on rescuing dogs from the LA City and LA County Shelters and placing them in local Forever Families. We also focus on spay and neuter initiatives in our Los Angeles community and outreach to assist those with pets who need a bit of extra help (providing vet care, flea + tick prevention, food, beds, supplies, etc.). The last weekend of January, we particated in a Skid Row event and gave away much needed food, collars & leashes, dog beds, Frontline to the local pet parents. It was a fantastic experience and we were so happy to help!
Wudla is 100% volunteer-run and 100% donation based. We operate out of foster homes and have about 3-5 active volunteers at a time (see, we're tiny!). Our dogs receive the utmost care and attention while in Wudla foster homes. We take pride in rescuing the dogs many consider to be the "underdog." We happily rescue the dogs that are left behind and considered "harder to place." These are often the pit bull type breeds, chihuahua mixes, senior dogs, and dogs in need of medical attention. Because of this, our operating and vet costs can become quite high - we take on hip surgeries, leg amputations, neurological cases, dogs testing heartworm positive, and more.
100% of the funds we raise go towards foster care for our Wudla fosters. Our expenses often grow to $2,500+ a month depending on vet care needed. We would like to raise enough funds to safely see us through the next 6 months. We currently have 8 dogs in our rescue (including medical cases and senior pups) and we want to be able to provide whatever care they need until they find their Forever Families.
I know there are tons of dog rescue organizations out there asking for help, and I am sure they're all deserving. I am not sure what to tell you to separate Wudla from the rest, except say that we treat each and every foster as if they are our own dog. We want the best for them and I personally feel responsible for our dogs even after they're adopted. Wudla will always be available as support for our fosters even after adopted, no matter what.
I know we cannot rescue our way out of this epidemic. This is not a dog problem; this is a human problem and as a human I absolutely feel responsible to help. Please help Wudla as we attempt to tackle this problem as we cannot do it alone.
Thank you and much love,
Jessica
