Venorica "Vee" Tucker has always been a pillar in her family and her community. After decades of working in the restaurant industry, Vee lost her job along with thousands of hospitality workers across the country in March 2020. For the past 10 years, Vee has been an active member leader at the Restaurant Opportunities Center of DC (ROC-DC) as well as a shop steward at her banquet serving job with Unite Here Local 23. In both arenas she has been a champion for workers rights, always fighting for higher wages, working conditions and justice in our industry.

When the pandemic hit, she helped organize her coworkers into a mutual aid pod to support one another through this extraordinarily difficult time. Over the past year she has consistently held space for her coworkers to meet on a weekly basis to build community and solidarity with one another, while also sharing resources and helping each other navigate the never ending headache of unemployment insurance. 

Even before the pandemic, Vee was struggling to keep up with her bills, and with the inconsistency of our unemployment system, she has fallen behind on both paying off her debts and her rent. Due to a complicated situation with her current home in Maryland, she is also unable to apply for and qualify for rental assistance. 

Through this fundraiser, we hope to help catch Vee up on her back rent and late debt payments as well as support her for a couple more months until she can be in a more stable financial situation.


The folks organizing this fundraiser are organizers at ROC-DC who have worked closely with Vee for several years. She has given so much to the community and its time for the community to give back to her!
