Bri is someone who has shown so much love and support within the communities where she lives and runs her businesses in Dryden and now Ignace. In the last week, her and her brother Gary have lost both of their parents in separate tragic events. Peter passed away surrounded by family December 2, 2018 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Jackie passed away suddenly December 5, 2018 after a tragic house fire. They leave behind their Son Gary (Mindy) and daughter Brianne Smith (James), beloved granddaughter Evana,
Jackie and Peter had been “best friends” and married for more than 44 years. Born in Hamilton, they met while Jackie was working at the local A&W and served Peter. He kept asking her out on a date and she kept refusing him as she thought he was only 16 years old and too young for her. Married in Hamilton, Peter had the opportunity to work in a mine in Pickle Lake Ontario where they lived for about 4 years then settled in Dryden Ontario when their son Gary was 2 years old. where Brianne was born 8 years later. They were both very well known and loved in the community of Dryden. Peter could be seen almost anywhere in town with his infectious smile working on commercial refrigerators. Jackie had worked for the city of Dryden.
Peter had a passion for work as well as enjoyed his gambling getaways to Vegas, while Jackie was a wonderful mother devoting herself to her children and in later years you could find her sitting on her deck reading away the summer afternoons.
Unfortunately, Peter and Jackie did not have insurance on their home that burnt down where Jackie lost her life, and their family now has to cover all costs to clean up the wreck on top of both funeral expenses. Other simple expenses that one doesn't think of are getting the mail rerouted and the telephone's redirected. All fund received will be used to help lessen the burden to both Bri & Gary and their families.
Gary was working under his father in the family business as an apprentice and now must find someone new to work under in order to finish his education. Brianne along with her husband run 2 successful restaurants in both Dryden ON & Ignace ON. They have been active in both communities hosting fundraisers for anyone who asks and never taking a profit from them. They've also been know to pass out free thanksgiving dinners to anyone in need. As someone who goes above and beyond to support her community, we want to show that same love and support back by helping to cover some of the memorial expenses.
You can donate here or support them by visiting The Mystic Grill in Ignace or Dryden. Also, if people so desire they can visit the Drdyen Funeral Home to donate directly there.
Any and all help goes a long way - thank you so much in advance, and our deepest condolences go out to the entire Mitchell family during this tragic time.
