Terry survived 20 days in a coma and we need your support for her to make her "well" again...
Terry has been taking insulin to manage her Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years and never experienced Diabetic Keto-Acidosis prior to this life-threatening event of 20 days in a coma due to an undetected, severe bladder infection that only responds to I.V. antibiotics.
Our family was told that most people wake up within 3 days, and since Terry wasn't improving, there was a slim chance of survival and our family should be prepared for severe deficits and some semblance of a vegetative state.
Miraculously, Terry first spoke on Good Friday! She sounded like "Darth Vadar," but the doctors were astonished that she could speak at all.
While in hospital Terry survived encephalopathy, pneumonia, respiratory failure, and several other complications. Terry was saved by the amazing doctors at Huntington Memorial Hospital and the prayers, actions and good wishes of family, friends, and caring strangers all over the world. God heard those prayers and Terry is on the road to healing.
With your help, her healing will continue and Terry will begin to thrive again. Whatever you can offer to support her needs is appreciated.
Some examples of Terry's need for financial support include the following:
- Co-pay for life saving Insulin pump: $1,000.00;
- Co-pay for Insulin pump supplies and for continuous glucose monitor supplies;
- Upgrade to an iPhone 6 which has a life-saver app that alerts family members wherever they are when Terry's blood glucose level is before it becomes dangerously high or low;
- Medical alert with automatic fall detection service;
- Transportation costs to and from doctor's and hospital visits including whatever it costs to get Terry's car road worthy (approx. $1,800.00);
- Airfare for family to fly cross country to take turns caring for Terry. She will be unable to be left unattended for several months;
- Help with moving into a ground floor studio or efficiency apartment in close proximity to Huntingdon Hospital and where Terry will have home visits from nurses. (Thank God, Medicare covers the home nursing). Once her own housing is secured Terry will have palliative care ;
May God Bless each of you for your generosity, continued love and prayerful support!
With so much GRATITUDE and JOY,
Melanie Carr Daniels-Givertz and family.
