The Vernon Canadian Reformed School Society was revived four years ago due to the large number of children being born into our church and many parents desiring Reformed education for their children. The school began with only three students, from three families, in a room rented from the church. The fi rst year a home schooling format was used with Distributed Learning, a B.C. ministry approved program and one teacher’s aid.
As time went on more families with children committed, so the next year a portable classroom was built on the church property. This was done with over $50,000 of local funds and mostly volunteer labour. The following year further growth led to a partition wall being built to divide the portable into two classrooms and a second teacher’s aid was hired. This 2014-2015 school year we have been blessed with a total of 19 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2015/2016 school year we are projecting an additional 10 students who will be entering into our Kindergarten class and a growing list of support from local Canadian Reformed families. Planning is underway to progress from a Distributed Learning group to a full time day school. Projected numbers show up to 40 students in 2018. To meet the demand of those seeking Reformed education for their children, and as the space available in our 2-room portable fills up, we are thankful that we were able to purchase a property adjacent to the Vernon Canadian Reformed Church. On the property there is an existing home which will need to be demolished and a new school building will need to be built. We are seeking your support to assist us in covering the shortfall of approximately $100,000.
It is our hope and prayer that you consider our need and are able to financially support us with any amount so we to can carry out our parental covenant responsibility in raising and educating our children in the light of God’s Word.
