Tara's Brave Battle with Cancer

Donation protected
On February 17, 2017 our lives changed forever.  On this day a very special person to us, Tara Munro Cornelius, discovered that after a yearlong battle with cancer, it had returned, but this time it was terminal. Tara has been diagnosed with stage 4 triple negative metastatic breast cancer, which currently does not have a cure.  Tara is only 36 years old.

Tara is an amazing wife and mom. She is married to a wonderful man, Duane and they have two gorgeous children, Kingston and Eden. Kingston is 8 years old and Eden is 6 years old and their mom is everything to them. Tara beams with happiness when surrounded by her family and friends in a room full of laughter and children playing all around us.

Tara makes you feel like you are the only one in the room when she is talking to you.  This is just one of the many great things that we love about her. Tara’s positivity is infectious; you feel happier just by spending time with her. She is extremely empathetic, compassionate and she always puts others first. Throughout Tara’s struggle with cancer, she has been equally concerned with how it has impacted the people she loves.

Tara's battle began in March 2016 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout 2016, Tara amazed us with her strength and resilience as she underwent many weeks of exhausting chemotherapy and radiation.  While many people in treatment wore sweat pants, Tara went to each chemo session looking beautiful as always wearing her signature string of pearls.  Tara even faced a daunting double mastectomy with unmatched courage and humour.  Tara shows us that life is precious under any circumstances and that even in struggle, we should live life with grace, happiness and unconditional love.

Our hope is that Tara can continue to live her best life.  The average life span for those living with Tara’s type of cancer is two years from diagnosis.  Tara is not average and she is fighting this with all her energy. Our hope is that through this campaign we will prolong Tara’s life and minimize her struggle.

Tara’s diagnosis is causing financial strain on her family.  Tara was self-employed and unfortunately she does not have critical illness or disability benefits. This was in her future plans but first diagnosed at 35 years old, she did not expect to face illness so young.  Now that Tara can no longer work, they are attempting to support their family on one income.

In addition to regular household expenses, some of the additional costs that Tara is facing are drugs and treatments not covered by OHIP, clinical trails, physiotherapy, naturopath visits and treatments, wigs, juices and organic foods recommended by her doctor, extra childcare expenses, cleaning and laundry services, hospital parking and much more. It would also be wonderful if Tara had some extra funds to spend on family outings that Tara may want to experience during her remaining time.

Your support, in any amount, will help Tara focus on her health by reducing the financial burden that her illness is causing her family.  If you would prefer to support Tara via cheque or by paying directly for one of her expenses, please contact me (Lisa Violo – aka BFF) at [email redacted] for more details.

Tara and Duane are forever grateful for the outpouring of support they continue to receive.  Please join me in keeping Tara in your thoughts and in your prayers. Together we can continue the fight against cancer and help Tara stay with us, especially her precious little ones, as long and comfortably as possible.
