Hi, I’m Maren and I volunteer with The Retrievers.
The Retrievers assisted in the search for Sushi, a shy senior shiba inu lost in White Bear Lake on 7/14/15. She was found on 7/20/15 by a Good Samaritan when she followed the man and his dog home from a walk, the man then called the number seen on some of the local signs.
Sushi’s owners went to pick her up right away and brought her to the vet, as she was limping.
Sweet Sushi has had what we now know to be a truly horrible 6 days on the run.
After spending the afternoon at the vet, it was determined that not only are all the toes in her right hind foot broken, but she had internal bleeding due to “trauma in the area of the vulva.” The vet suggested that in the time that she was lost, that someone may have tried to breed her.
We will get further confirmation first thing in the morning and plan to report to local police.
In the meantime, Sushi is on pain killers and antibiotics and will need to see an orthopedic surgeon for her foot. Today’s bill was $1012.47 and there will be much more owed once Sushi can meet with the surgeon.
Sushi’s family is currently having a car fixed that broke down while rescuing three dogs from a TX shelter, repairing the foundation of their home which also had all the brand new copper piping recently stolen, and are preparing for the final stages of another one of their dog's lives; aside from all the emotions, financially this is a tough time for such large bills.
Let’s help to ensure that Sushi can be seen by a great orthopedic surgeon by helping cover the cost of this initial vet visit.
If you cannot contribute financially, please help spread the word about Sushi as well as talk with friends about how to keep pets safe, both your own and those you encounter.
We are their voice.
Thank you for your support!
