Sarah's Story......

 

On January 2, 2022, Sarah and Rick’s lives were turned upside down. What they thought was a routine surgery, removing a recurrent uterine fibroid so they could embark on their IVF journey to grow their family turned into a diagnosis of a rare sarcoma, uLMS (uterine leiomyosarcoma). Sarah is a 41-year-old dedicated middle school teacher, fiercely loyal daughter, sister, and friend. She is a bright light, who wears her heart on her sleeve, and readily gives her all to those around her.

 

In late January, this brave woman said goodbye to her dream of bearing a child and underwent a hysterectomy in hopes that the cancer was contained and surgery would stop the spread.

 

In just three short months, we were all devastated to learn that the uLMS had aggressively spread to her abdomen and lungs. On May 5th Sarah underwent her first round of chemotherapy and got thrown into this battle to fight for her life. Though we know chemo is not a cure, we hope that this treatment will stop the spread and give us more options & time to fight this disease. We continue to seek consultations with specialists in the US and any promising treatments/potential clinical trials, to help us determine where and how to get her the best care we can. Sarah and Rick’s story is underway, and a CaringBridge page has been created so friends and family can remain updated as she braves this battle. Please keep them in your prayers and shower them with love and strength during this time. Sarah is on leave from work, and 100% of her focus is on doing everything she can to get through this. Many of you have reached out asking to make donations to her care.
