Hello! I am Saige, an American high school student. My biggest dream is to be an exchange student in Japan. You may be asking yourself "Why in the world would a teenage girl want to leave her friends, her family and her hometown to study in another country where she doesnt know anybody?" Well, believe it or not, there are many reasons why I want to become an exchange student.
Ever since the 5th grade, I have been in love with Japanese culture. I love their music, their food and the welcoming spirit that emulates from the country itself. But most importantly; I want to be able to firsthandedly practice and exponentially improve my Japanese speaking skills. Language learning is something that is very important to me and it is very difficult to fully learn a language when you aren't using it everyday. With student exchange, you are fully submerged into an enviroment where you are forced to use a foreign language. For, if you dont, no one will understand you. Learning another language isn't just important to satisfy my interests; it will give me a better chance to earn scholarships, help me secure jobs in the future and allow me to be culturally aware.
Not to mention, with the state that the world is in now, it is very important to strengthen bonds with other countries, and i believe this trip may do that as well.
Specifics of the trip:
I will be going for my Junior year, meaning I will leave August 2017 and return around May or June of 2018. I have been accepted as an ambassador for Rotary International and will be sent abroad through them.
The payments are needed as follows:
February 1st: $1,800
March 1st: $1,800
April 1st: $1,700
I will be applying for a job very soon, but on minimum wage, my trip will not be possible without donations. Anything will help! I thank you very much for taking the time to read this, thank you and please consider donating!
