Support in memory of Socket

Hello, my name is Jack Brinkley. Firstly,

thank you for taking time out of your day to learn about my story.

Tragically, my family lost our beloved Springer Spaniel named Harvey on the 7th March 2025, after he was hit by a car. It was a sudden and heavy loss, and so we sought comfort in introducing another member to our family — a Springador puppy called Socket.

Socket is a lively black ball of energy, and he brought life back into our home after the heavy weight of Harvey’s absence. However, around a week ago, he experienced sudden lethargy and refused to eat. This was extremely worrying to us all, and we immediately took action. Socket was taken to see a veterinarian, yet they struggled to find a clear prognosis. He was then moved to an animal hospital, where he was eventually diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, commonly known as CDH.

CDH is a rare birth defect, where the diaphragm does not close properly during development. This means that the diaphragm is left with a hole, or hernia, and cannot separate the chest from the internal organs. Socket’s internal organs had moved into his chest, which resulted in the sudden onset of extreme lethargy and weakness. If left untreated, CDH can be life-threatening.

Thankfully, Socket received treatment before his condition took a bigger turn for the worst, essentially making this a life-saving operation. Although he should be returning home shortly, we unfortunately do not have the funds for the debt caused by the surgery and his treatment.

I have decided to start a GoFundMe for Socket and my family, as they are struggling to handle the financial stress of surgery, paired with the tragedy of Harvey’s death. My initial goal is to raise £500 to contribute towards paying for the surgery. In total, we require £10,000 at the very least to fully cover the costs.

Edit: We just got socket from the Hospital and he's doing well! We have to watch him closely but he is way more energetic and Happy to be home.

Edit 2: Socket has been put down. After his surgery, he was healing for a week until suffering a fluid leak and an unknown factor squashing his heart.

unfortunately, it was just too much, and we had to say goodbye to him.

he was only a few months old, he didnt get to have a birthday or even grow up.

im sorry that i cant give a more uplifting update. Thank you to everyone who donated, you gave our dog a bit more of a chance while he was alive.
