Raul Antonio Matamoros has touched the hearts of countless friends, family, co-workers, and members of his community with his kindness, humor, support, and wonderful smile. On Monday, January 19th, Raul tragically fell off a ladder while painting. He hit his head on the concrete floor and suffered from some internal bleeding in his brain, along with a fractured nose, several ribs and scapula. He is in critical but stable condition now in the SICU unit at Cottage Hospital. Raul's extensive family and wide circle of friends are by his side around the clock at the hospital, surrounding him with love and support.
January 26 update
Raul had successful emergency surgery on Thursday to relieve the pressure on his brain. He is still in stable/critical condition. They are slowly weening him off of the sleeping medicines, and we are hopeful as we see him responding more to our touch. We are overwhelmed and touched by the extent of Raul's community! We so appreciate all your prayers and support! Thank you!
February 25th
Raul has slowly made a bit more progress these past few weeks. Saturday the 21st he opened his eyes for a short while. On Tuesday the 24th Raul had surgery where they placed the left side of his skull back. Surgery was successful. Currently Raul is now out of the ICU But still at cottage hospital. He will be transferred to a therapy facility in Oxnard.
We are very greatful for all your donations and prayers. Rauls wife Lupe and his kids Tony and Michelle are Thankful for everyone's contributions, prayers and positive thoughts!
