On July 3, 2020, my father took his final breath at home with the help of our local hospice. It was 3 days after he turned 49. He was taken from his beautiful life much too early. After my dad was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer with a B-RAF mutation that is very rare and very aggressive. He was effectively taken out of work immediately. Treatments were given in Washington DC, every other week from July through December. It took a big toll on him physically and the rest of the family mentally. After the 12 hour ride home, he would sleep off the treatment effects just in time to get ready to leave again. It was a huge expense traveling back and forth, however it was his best option to try to fight this horrible disease. Today I ask with a heavy heart for the support of my close friends and family. He leaves behind my 16 year old sister and 45 year old mother. I am almost 20 and a junior at Clemson University. It breaks my heart knowing he will never walk us down the aisle or see my sister graduate from high school. My family is suffering financially in the most crucial way. Since both of my parents were self employed, they did not qualify for unemployment. My mother ran her own successful janitorial company for 13 years and had to close the doors in order to take care of my father full time. My parents are the vision of true love and I ache for them everyday. Currently my mother is going back to college to get her degree in radiology so she can take care of my sister and I. With the pandemic still around and thriving I am worried that it will be an uphill battle for her to find a job that will be able to cover the bills. We would like to raise some money to help build an exterior Staircase to our mother in law suite, in order to rent out and help pay the mortgage. My father did not have any life insurance, stocks, bonds, savings, 401k or assets of any kind. My biggest concern is not having to sell our home, but taking my sister out of her school and away from her support system. Months after the loss of her father and entering the hardest school year to date. All that being said I appreciate everything being done for us!
