CANCER SUX! #TeamPearl
This year, on Valentine's Day, February 14th, instead of flowers and chocolates, Pearl received heartbreaking news; she had cancer.
I have created this GoFundMe campaign for Pearl and James Lindsey to help support Pearl in her journey. This campaign was created to not only help them financially, but also to be a place where we can all rally around Pearl and James to support and lift their spirits.
Pearl was diagnosed with a very rare form of bladder cancer. Fortunately, they caught it early and the doctors at MD Andersons Cancer Center in Houston were very optimistic that she could beat this and the prognosis looked great.
For those of you who have been blessed to know Pearl and her husband, James, you know that they are two of the most extraordinary human beings that you'll ever have the pleasure to meet. For those of you who don't, let me explain a little bit about how I have come to know them.
Last August, my husband and I were in search of a new place to call home. We wanted to get out of the rushed chaos that is Dallas/Fort Worth and give our two daughters a place to grow up outside the city. We wanted them to experience those "small town values," where neighbors help neighbors out of the goodness of their heart. We were blessed to have found our dream home located on Richland Chambers Reservoir. Not only were we very excited to find a new place to call home, but that we were joining and becoming a part of a tightknit community called Southern Oaks.
Fast forward to today, 9 months after we moved in, we have come to the realization that we didn't exactly get the community we had in mind, Instead, we got a new family. We are surrounded by so many amazing people that words can't describe how blessed I feel to be a part of this community. Two of those amazing people around us, are Pearl and James. Simply put, Pearl is a beautiful soul. She is cheerful, loving, unbelievably strong and always puts her friends and family before herself. Her husband James is incredibly selfless, always helping others in need. He's the kind of guy who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He is incredibly funny and everyone who knows him, has nothing but great things to say about him. They both are incredible parents to their daughter Rylie, who just finished up the 2nd grade on the "A" honor roll.
"Round 1: FIGHT!" *Ding* *Ding* *Ding* (Surgery)
After a long series of pre-op tests, on April 4th she underwent surgery. To get the tumor, they had to remove part of her bladder and reconstruct. After a grueling 6 hours, the surgeon stated that he was extremely happy with how everything went and it was "the best case scenario." Recovering in her room, she was smiling and so grateful for the power of God and prayer. It appeared that she had overcame and conquered the nasty cancer beast.
"Round 2: FIGHT!" *Ding* *Ding* *Ding* (Moment of Truth, "Am I Cancer Free?")
After the surgery, Pearl returned home from Houston to recover and soon was back on her feet, smiling and brightening every room she walked in. On May 20th, she returned to Houston for follow up testing to determine if she was, in fact, cancer free. All Pearl wanted, more than anything in the world, was to ring the bell in the cancer center announcing she had beat cancer. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. She was informed that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Her worst nightmare has now became a reality and she is once again, fighting for her life. James and Pearl have returned to Houston to immediately start an aggressive treatment plan with heavy chemo treatments daily, in hopes of finally beating this thing once and for all. For the next couple of months, Pearl will need our help and strength more than ever to keep pushing forward. It will be a very difficult time for her and her family.
Now begins...
"Round 3: FIGHT!" *Ding* *Ding* *Ding* (Lets Kick Cancer's...You Know What!)
While Pearl continues to fight, medical bills and other unforeseen expenses are piling up. My hope is that we can rally around this amazing family, that has done so much for each one of us, and return some of the love and support they have always given to our community. Anything you can donate would help tremendously and would be greatly appreciated. I hope that this will help alleviate some of the stress and worry they are experiencing so they focus on beating this thing. Lets do everything we can to help and surround them with love. Please spread the word and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Also, please don't hesitate to leave some love for Pearl in the comments or share a story or personal experience that would give her hope; the most important thing she can do is to stay positive and keep her head up high.
Cancer Sux!! #TeamPearl all the way!
Again, thank you for taking the time to help this amazing family.
