Dear Family and Friends,
I hope this urgent message finds you well. Today, we are reaching out to you regarding an urgent situation that our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and friend-- Paris Walls is facing. Paris is a bright first-year college student dedicated to pursuing a degree in Child Development. She has always been a responsible young lady—balancing her studies, work, and helping to care for her younger siblings and she has never been in trouble with the law.
This past summer, Paris got a job working in her field at a daycare center. Unfortunately, during a routine day supervising children on the playground, she encountered a challenging and unforeseen circumstance. When the children returned for lunch, Paris noticed that one child was missing. Acting quickly, she informed her supervisor that the child did not come in with the group. Fortunately, he was brought in safely and unhurt. He ate lunch and joined the other children and took a nap.
We have since learned that Paris was not properly trained, and there was a lack of supervision that contributed to this incident. Further, cases like this when the child is unharmed are usually handled internally.
Regrettably, despite her cooperation and the fact that there were other individuals involved who are in a supervisory position over Paris and who should have counted the children, she is bearing the full brunt of the responsibility.
Early this week when Paris called and inquired about the status of the investigation, she incidentally learned that a grand jury indicted her last week (November 13) on serious felony charges of child abandonment and endangerment, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. To make matters worse, her bail has been set at $25,000. We've since learned that those in positions over Paris, also met with investigators (prior to her indictment) with legal representation and did not receive the same treatment as she. It appears Paris has been set up as the fall guy.
As family and friends who care deeply for Paris, we believe these actions to be unjust, with prosecutorial overreach and due process violations, and we are determined to support her in navigating this legal struggle. We are asking for your help in getting her an attorney and for bail. Without assistance, Paris could face imprisonment and severe financial penalties of up to $10,000.
We found an attorney who will take the case for $2500---the going rate is usually thousands more. Our goal is to raise $2500 for the attorney and $2500 for bail by Saturday. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help pave a path for this promising young lady to continue her education and pursue her dreams. If you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this message with others who may be able to help would mean the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, support, and kindness during this trying time. Again, we ask that you please share this with your family, friends, caring individuals and on your social media.
With gratitude
